How to create a Slack Private Channel? Read our guide on creating Private Channels on your Slack workspace for Admins and inviting users to the channel.
Slack is an instant messaging app for corporates that encourages collaboration via constant communication among team members. It provides a way to organize your messages so that everyone has access to all the information at any time.
It is also a secure messaging app with ways to keep your information confidential and safe. Slack private channels are one way to keep your chats private, with only team members having access to the information of that channel. However, the files that you share on that channel are not private.
Wondering how private channels work on Slack? Here's how to make a Slack channel private on your Mac or PC.
Go to https://slack.com/intl/enng/. When the page loads, click on ‘Sign in’ at the top left of the page.
On the next page, enter the URL of the workspace you want to log in to and click Next.
If you forget the URL of the workspace you belong to, click on ‘Search Workspace’ under the ‘Next’ button. If you haven't already signed in to your workspace in your browser, ‘Find Workspace’ option is in the upper left corner of the page.
Once you enter the correct URL, the workspace of the specified URL will load. In a workspace, you can see which channels belong to that particular workspace. To add a channel, click on the + sign on the left side of the Channels tab. Next, click on the create channel option.
Give the channel a name of your choice. We recommend naming the channel based on the theme on which it will be based.
The name must be lowercase, free of spaces and full stops, and must be less than 80 characters. Next, enter the purpose of the channel. Below the description, you will find a button that says "Make private". Toggle the button on to make the channel private. The toggle switch will turn green. Then, click on ‘Create’ to finish creating the channel.
You can add any member of your team by highlighting them in the pop-up that appears immediately after they are created, or by selecting ‘Add User’ from the channel page.
...and you’re done!
